RADFORD COACH, TEXAS A&M LINKED

Lubomyr Lichonczak, who this year guided the Radford University women's team to its first NCAA Tournament berth, is considered one of the leading candidates for the women's basketball job at Texas A&M.

Lichonczak, a former assistant coach on the Aggies' staff, is vacationing this week and could not be reached for comment. He is expected to be in College Station, Texas, to visit his son, Yov, and daughter, Nika, both of whom attend Texas A&M. A source at Radford said Lichonczak would talk about the job opening with Aggies officials.

Before coming to Radford in August 1990 as the successor to Roanoke native Charlene Curtis, who became the women's coach at Temple, Lichonczak worked on Lynn Hickey's staff at Texas A&M from 1987-90. Hickey relinquished her coaching duties May 4 to accept a position as senior associate athletic director.
