Penn Virginia Corp., a Philadelphia-based energy company with coal operations in Western Virginia, reported Tuesday that its first quarter income was up 25 percent to $3.2 million, or 76 cents per share, from year-earlier $2.6 million, or 61 cents per share. Sales and other revenue for the quarter totaled $9.1 million, compared with $8.2 million in the 1993 quarter.

The Limited Inc., Columbus, Ohio retailer operating stores in the Roanoke Valley, reported first quarter net income of $47.3 million or 13 cents per share, up 7 percent compared with year-earlier $44.2 million or 12 cents per share. Sales were 6 perent to $1.48 billion from $1.40 billion in the 1993 quarter.
