IN SERVICE

Navy Lt. Commander MICHAEL B. MICHAELS is participating in a major fleet exercise in the Western Atlantic Ocean with Commander, U.S. Second Fleet, Naval Station, Norfolk, Va. He is the son of Carl and Carole Michaels of Christiansburg.

CHARLES T. LANE has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior airman. Lane is an aircraft communications and navigation systems specialist. His parents are Ronnie and Bonnie Lane of Christiansburg.

Air Force Airman ROBERT W. PORTERFIELD has graduated from the strategic aircraft maintenance specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. He was taught aircraft maintenance fundamentals for repairing and servicing aircraft with turbo engines. Porterfield is the son of Jerry W. Porterfield of Pulaski.

Air Force Airman LUCAS T. DUNCAN has graduated from the tactical aircraft maintenance specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. Duncan is the son of Landis and Rebecca Duncan of Christiansburg.

Army Spec. MARK R. MAYBERRY has completed a finance specialist course at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Lawrence, Inc. He is the son of Judy Mayberry of Blacksburg.

Marine Cpl. DAVID W. PERDUE was recently promoted to his present rank while serving with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is the son of Irvin and Norma Perdue of Radford.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class TERRY WADDELL is serving with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, Gulfport, Miss., which recently received the Atlantic Fleet Naval Construction Force Best of Type Award for 1993. Waddell is a 1984 Christiansburg High School graduate.

Marine Lance Cpl. CHRISTOPHER W. KEENE, son of Wanda Keene of Blacksburg and Roger Keene of Pulaski, recently deployed for a four week Combined Arms Exercise at Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Air Force Airman TODD C. ALBANO has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. His parents are Frank and Betty Albano of Dublin.

Air Force Airman KELLIE J. MCCOY has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Rusty and Joan McCoy of Dublin.

Navy Seaman Recruit BILLY J. HENLEY, son of Betty J. Beaver of Dublin and Vernon M. Henley of Pulaski, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Marine Pfc. JASON A. BROWNS, son of Alfred R. Browns of Blacksburg, recently completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
