DRIVER IS INJURED IN SINGLE-CAR CRASH

Excessive speed may have been a factor in a single-car accident Wednesday night on Franklin Road.

Roanoke police Sgt. J.W. Slusher said the accident, which happened about 9:30, occured as the car was exiting the Roy Webber Highway.

The car skidded into a guardrail, throwing the male driver through the passenger window. Slusher said the car continued to travel for about 300 feet before it crashed.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. No one else was injured.

While the cause of the crash has not officially been determined, Slusher said the car was going faster than it should have been.
