ABSHIRE, Paul Harold, 72, of Rt. 2, Boones Mill, died Thursday, May 12, 1994 at his residence. He was a lifelong member of the Boones Mill Church of the Brethren, where he served as Deacon, and taught Sunday School for 40 years. Mr. Abshire retired after 41 years with Norfolk & Western Railroad. Surviving are his wife, Marie Saul Abshire; two daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis and Gary Fagan, Crozet, Lois Arrington, Boones Mill; three grandchildren, Emily, Amanda and Lindsay Fagan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jesse and Mildred Abshire, Randolph and Helen Abshire, all of Roanoke, Howard and Jackie Abshire, Boone s Mill; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae and Raymond Webster, Boones Mill, Naomi and Cecil Wingo, Roanoke, Walter and Jane Ellen Cundiff, Rocky Mount; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Robert A. Miller and the Rev. Leonard Martin officiating. BUSH, Mary McGhee, 88, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994, is now resting and at peace after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. Mrs. Bush was a life time member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke L. Bush Sr. and her daughter, Marie B. Conner. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Leonard L. and Kathryn Bush, Hardy, Elmer W. Bush and Delmer L. Bush both of Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy B. and Ralph Parsons of Roanoke, Dianne B. Carpenter of Roanoke; numerous brothers and sisters; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Jerry L. Cloninger Jr. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Rescue Squad.

BYRD, William Charles, 80, of Copper Hill, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994. Mr. Byrd was a retired kick driver for the Roanoke Times & World News and a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary D. and Barbara G. Byrd of Richmond; daughter, Judy E. Byrd of Copper Hill; sister, Mrs. Mildred Hanes of Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews. CHAMBERS, Clarice Christine, 68, of Route 2, Huddleston, passed away Thursday, May 12, 1994, in a Lynchburg hospital. She was born in Bedford County on April 11, 1926 a daughter of the late James Gaston Williams and Esther Updike Williams. Her husband was the late Clarence Jewell Chambers Sr. She was a member of Quaker Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon C. Newman, Bedford; two sons, Clarence Jewell Chambers Jr. and James M. Chambers, both of Huddleston; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 14, 1994 at 11 a.m. from Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston, by the Revs. Lewis Garst and Wayne Murphy with interment in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery. GIBSON, Charlie Irving, Sr., 82 of Roanoke, died Thursday May 12, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Faye E. Gibson; son and daughter-in-law, Charlie I. and Paula Gibson, Jr., Boones Mill; grandchildren, Christopher A. Gibson and Tina L. Gibson; several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. GOING, Annie Simmerson Johnson, 84, of Roanoke, formerly of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994, in a Salem hospital. She was the widow of Captain Murrie Underwood and Mr. Robert Going. Surviving are one daughter, Jane Carson Hall of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jack L. Spain Jr. of Cary, N.C., Jayne Spain Beachler, Highland Village, Texas, Randall Carson Hall, Christiansburg, Richard William Spain of Flower Mound, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the gravesite in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. Horne. GROSS, Herbert G. Jr., Sgt. Maj., 59, of Hampton, formerly of Vinton, died Thursday, May 11, 1994. He retired in 1984 after 30 years in the U.S. Army and has been a resident of Hampton since 1981. Mr. Gross was a civil servant working at Langley Air Force Base at the time of his death. He was a member of American Legion Post 31, and a past member of the Masons. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. His army career included service during the occupation of Berlin, as well as in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His numerous awards and citations included the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and nine Awards of the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife, Helga; their five children, Diana Knoblauch of Tampa, Fla., Bruce Gross of Tampa, Fla., Kenneth Gross of Courtland, Va., Debra Shaffer of Ft. Eustis, Va., and Tarra Kunz of Ft. Eustis, Va.; also seven grandchildren; one sister, Olga Garger of Roanoke. A funeral service will be held in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 14, 1994 at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Carlton R. Howells of Hope Lutheran Church. LAZENBY, J. Thomas, 86, of Bedford, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County January 5, 1908 a son of the late Houston Lazenby and Betty Mary Martin Lazenby. His wife was the late Ernestine Bland Wingfield Lazenby. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church and was retired owner of the former Bunker Hill Self Service Market. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Ray Markham of Bedford and Fort Myers, Fla., and Mickey Lazenby Gast of Westchester, Pa.; a son, Bobby Lazenby of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a half brother, John Bays of Roanoke; and two half sisters, Willie (Bill) Booth, Mechanicsville and Mary Lewis Weddle of Virginia Beach; also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery, Sunday, May 15, 1994, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Aaron Gast officiating. Memorials may be made to the Mt. MAYHEW, Virginia Wray, 75, of Roanoke, died Wednesday evening, May 11, 1994. She was the widow of Philip M. Mayhew, a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, and a past

member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Mayhew, Richmond; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Mayhew, Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Walter M. Lockett Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. MORRIS, Sadie Geraldine Bannister, 70, of Mud Pike Road, Christiansburg, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born November 29, 1914. She was a member of St. Peter's Anglican Catholic Church, a member of Friendship Garden Club, and the NAACP. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Hattie B. Dennis, Mrs. Virginia B. Carr, Mrs. Annie B. Jones, all of Christiansburg, and Mrs. Kathleen B. Robinson, Providence, R.I.; a brother-in-law, Mr. Willie H. Jones, Christiansburg. PARCELL, Hersel Henderson, 67, of the Poplar Hill Community, Pearisburg, died Thursday, May 12, 1994 at his home. He was born January 29, 1927 at Crumpler, W. Va., the son of the late Albert Wesley and Elsie Vernon Hamblin Parcell. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Parcell, Garland Parcell and John Parcell; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Dodson and Mrs. Frankie Whittaker; a grandson, Wesley Talbert. He was a retired employee of the Hoechest-Celanese Plant and was a veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Burroughs Parcell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Bill Warne r, Ooltewah, Tenn., Joyce and Michael Talbert, Pearisburg, Miss Stacey Parcell, Greenville, N. C.; two brothers, Irvin Parcell, Rich Creek, Clayton Parcell, Staffordsville; one sister, Mrs. Argie Spangler, Pearisburg; five grandchildren, Lori and Patti Talbert, Kara, Clay and Jonathan Warner. ROYER, Glenice Drumheller, 84, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, May 12, 1994 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born October 17, 1909 in Buena Vista, daughter of the late James Henry and Blanche Jennings Drumheller. She was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Alvin Royer. She is survived by a daughter- Joanna Royer Meade, Lexington; a son, James A. Royer, Buena Vista; five grandchildren, David Todd Royer, Michael Royer, both of Buena Vista, Paula M. Cash, Greensboro, N. C., Deanna Meade and Kaye Meade, both of Rockbridge County; two great-grandchildren. SEEGARS, Charlotte Elizabeth, of Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994 in a Roanoke hospital. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Seegars. Charlotte was a graduate of the College of Charleston and received her Masters Degree in Christian Education from S carrett College in Nashville, Tenn. She came to the Franklin County area in 1954 under a special appointment by the General Board of Global Minsteries as a church and county worker for Franklin County. She was the founding vision behind the establishment of the Henry Fork Service Center in 1967 and served as its Director for 12 years. She was a member of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, attended the New Hope United Methodist Church and was a faithful member of the United Methodist Women for many years. Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James and Shirley Seegars, Spartanburg, S.C.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Evelyn and Harold Glover, Johns Island, S.C., Barbara Crissey, Atlanta, Ga., Eleanor Allen, Charleston, S.C.; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with the Rev. William K. Dawson, the Rev. Deroy Campbell, Julia Woodford and Mary K. Pulliam officiating. STRAWBRIDGE, Earl Percell, 55, of Jeffersonville, Ind., formerly of Glasgow, died in Jeffersonville, Ind. Memorial service 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, Glasgow.

TERRY, Grace B., departed this life on Monday, May 9, 1994 in a local hospital. She was a native of Bedford, Virginia and was a retired teacher and principal from Bedford County Public Schools. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Terry Clark; nephew, Herman R. Clark, Jr. and his iwfe, Rosa Lee Clark, grand nephew, Eric Richard Clark, grand niece, Christina Clark Jackson and her husband, Randolph Jackson, one great grand nephew, Andrea' Randolph Jackson, all of N. Amityville, L.I., New York; first cousin, Mrs. Elizabeth R. McFadden, Philadelphia, Pa., many other cousins and friends. TOMLINSON, Ruth Beale, 82, of the Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg, Va., died Thursday, May 12, 1994, at her residence. Her husband was the late Lawrence Edward Tomlinson. Born in Pamplin City, she was a daughter of the late Meredith Houston Beale and Ella Branch Beale. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and Fairview Rebekah Lodge No. 52. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Katorsky and Cora Callahan and two brothers, Clayton and Norris Beale. She is survived by one son, Lewis E. ``Ed'' Tomlinson and his wife, Phyllis of Lynchburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria T. McCanna of Richmond and Mrs. Shirley Rice and her husband, Jim of Vinton; one brother, Willie Wesley Beale of Pamplin City; one sister, Mazie Robertson of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and five great-grandch ildren. A funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by Dr. Jerry Falwell. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg. TRUMP, Vernon Wesley, 43, of Christiansburg, died Thursday morning, May 12, 1994, at his home, of cancer. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Wesley Trump; his mother, Helen W. Trump; and two brothers, Aubrey Vernon Trump Jr. and Darrell Wayne Trump. Surviving are his wife, Mildred L. Trump; one son, Kenneth Dwayne Trump, Christiansburg; three sisters, Doris Thompson, JoAnn Criner, both of Blacksburg, Darlene Powell, Ironto; a brother, Danny Trump, Christiansburg; his father, Vernon Trump, Christiansburg; eight aunts and five uncles. Mr. Yost was a member of the Carter Bible Class at Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Irene Wyatt Yost of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Y. and Robert Brower of Fairfax; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen M. and Janet Yost of Salem; five grandchildren, Matthew, Christian and Meredith Brower, Emily and David Yost.
