HUGE FIELD EXPECTED AT NEW RIVER

The biggest field of cars this season is expected tonight for the first 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race of the season at the NASCAR-sanctioned New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

The Valley Rich/XPress Markets 300 will be the first "big money" race of the season for the LMSC competitors.

Jeff Agnew of Floyd, who has won four of the first five races, will be the favorite. However, a number of drivers - including Tim McGuire and Tony McGuire of Roanoke, Ronnie Thomas of Christiansburg and Bassett's Ray Young - have put in practice time on the .416-mile paved oval in recent weeks. Johnny Rumley, the former Mid-Atlantic champion of Winston-Salem, N.C., will be making his first appearance of the season.

In addition to the 200-lap LMSC race, the Limited Sportsman drivers will spar for 35 laps, and the Modified Mini and Pure Stock divisions each will run 25-lap events. Mini Stock drivers have the night off.

Admission for the special race is $10 for adults, $1 for children 12 and under.
