Southern Miss (34-22 overall, 11-7 conference) the second-place finisher in the Metro standings, scored single runs in the fourth through seventh innings to wipe out a 2-1 deficit. Davis' hit in the fifth inning put the Golden Eagles ahead to stay.
Virginia Tech (38-23, 8-9) had its lead after Denny Hedspeth poked RBI singles in the second and fourth innings. The Hokies didn't score again until taking advantage of a Southern Miss error and a Sal Colangelo sacrifice fly to score twice in the ninth.
Southern Miss starting pitcher Chris Logan (6-2) went the distance, striking out eight and walking five. Logan gave up four runs on eight hits.
Ron Preston (3-9), the first of three Virginia Tech pitchers, was the loser, giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Virginia Tech, seeded sixth, will play third-seeded South Florida and the Golden Eagles will play Louisville in the first round of the Metro Conference tournament Wednesday at Louisville, Ky.

Jason Kasch's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Maryland-Baltimore County a 6-5 victory over Radford and a sweep of the three-game Big South Conference series.
Kasch was 3-for-4 for the Retrievers (23-21, 15-12). UMBC has won five straight and 11 of 14 games.
The Highlanders (26-26, 17-10) finish the season with six straight losses.
Radford took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Duane Filchner. After UMBC tied the score, the Highlanders went ahead 4-2 in the fourth on RBI hits by Mike Hurt and Donnie Fields.
The Retrievers answered by scoring one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 5-4 lead. Radford tied the score on Alex Vaxmonsky's RBI double in the eighth before Kasch won the game for UMBC.
Travis Toms (6-5) took the loss for Radford in relief. UMBC reliever Jeff Berman (1-0) got the win.
In Charlottesville, Florida State (44-18, 14-9) beat Virginia 13-1 to win the weekend series 2-1. The Seminoles had 15 hits, including three triples, and they stole 11 bases, one shy of the ACC record. Steve Nedeau stole four bases. Adam Robinson homered in the bottom of the first for the Cavaliers' run. Virginia (20-33, 2-22) plays Maryland in a play-in game of the ACC tournament Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Greenville, S.C.
