CYCLISTS MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON PUPILS

The TOUR DUPONT whizzed through Blacksburg last week, leaving local elementary kids staring after the cyclists in awe. Here are a few lines from a poem sent in by a class at Margaret Beeks Elementary School. It's called "Questions for a Biker from a Child," and includes the pupils' thoughts on the race and the racers.

I was wondering about you.

You looked so interesting in your bright fluorescent colors,

As you rode by my class that day.

I watched the yellow, pink, orange and neon green whir by at top speed.

You reminded me of my twirling pinwheel.

Your bike resembled a gymnast's cartwheel.

I was wondering about you.

When you race your bike and dress up in your young colors,

Do you think of your family back home?

When you see all of the children cheering,

Do you wish your kids were here too?

When you zoom across the finish line in first place,

Do you feel warm and cuddly,

Like my blanket makes me feel?

I was wondering about you.
