ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The federal Consumer Price Index stood at 147.4 points at the end of April, compared with 144 a year earlier. That means a collection of goods and services that cost $144 a year ago sold for $147.40 last month. The index was up 0.1 percent from 147.2 in March.

The rate of inflation is running 2.3 percent on an annualized basis for the first four months of the year.

Also among the indicators this week, Appalachian Power Co. sold 265.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity in April compared with 280.2 million in the same month a year ago. That was down from 308.7 kilowatt hours in March, when the weather was much colder.
