FRAZIER WINS SMALL-BUSINESS HONORS

Randall Frazier, president of R. Frazier Inc. of Salem, was named the region's 1994 small business person of the year. The citation was announced Monday at the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce's small business awards luncheon.

The company, built from a start-up into a global player with operations in Europe and Asia, manages the disposal and recycling of electronic and communications equipment, chiefly computers. It employs 70 people worldwide. Many of its local employees were hired through the Total Action Against Poverty program, the chamber noted.

Frazier also was given the small business award for the manufacturing category. For the construction and construction services category, Daniel Jarrett of Jarrett Electric Co. Inc. won. Richard Macher of Macado's Inc. won the award for the services category, Lyle Anderson, David Schoonover and Larry Sharpe of CWC Enterprises Inc. for the wholesale and retail category and Elaine Vaughn of Love Baskets Ltd. for businesses with five or fewer employees.

Also, Robert Kopstein of Optical Cable Corp. was named the region's small business exporter of the year. The Roanoke manufacturer of fiber-optic cable has a worldwide sales force of 18.
