BUCCANEERS BEAT LYNCHBURG IN 10

Marcus Hanel drove in the winning run with a single up the middle in the 10th inning as the Salem Buccaneers defeated Lynchburg 7-6 on Tuesday night in Carolina League baseball.

Hanel atoned for a passed ball that allowed the tying run to score in the ninth inning. His two-out hit drove in Jon Farrell, who had doubled with one out and moved to third on a grounder.

It was a productive night for hitters on both teams, with six pitchers being raked for 28 hits.

Right fielder Jake Austin led the Buccaneers with three hits, and Ramon Zapata and Jason Kendall delivered two-run singles as Salem rallied for five unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Marc Pisciotta (1-3) earned the victory with two innings of relief.

The series continues tonight with Marc Wilkins (1-2) of Salem pitching against Wes Brooks (5-3).\
