CALL FOR HELP IN VAIN; MAN DIALS 911, DIES

A 41-year-old man was shot in the leg Tuesday during a domestic dispute, phoned for help, then was shot again before dying, police said.

Gloucester County Sheriff's Capt. Michael Nicely said Larry G. Bennett, 41, called 911 after he was shot in the leg early Tuesday. Minutes before the ambulance arrived, he was shot at least four more times by another person, Nicely said.

Bennett's wife, Marsha Rose Bennett, 37, and his stepsister, Nancy K. Hugate, 45, are charged with first-degree murder.

Nicely said Marsha Bennett told police her husband had been beating her before the shooting.
