DR. CHARLES D. GILLILAND of Roanoke recently was elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians, a professional organization of internists, and to the board of trustees for the Virginia Society of Internal Medicine.

Fellowship in the American College of Physicians is the result of peer nomination and a recognition of scholarly and professional achievements.

Gilliland, who practices at Lewis-Gale Clinic, is a clinical associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Virginia and a member of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine, the Medical Society of Virginia, the American Society of internal Medicine and the American Medical Association.

\ STEPHANIE BIRD of Salem recently was named the 1994 Young Careerist by the Mountain Region Business and Professional Women.

Bird is assistant director of admissions at Hollins College. The award reflects Bird's career achievements.

\ LEVON P. TURPIN recently was elected Chapter Woman of the Year by the Salem area chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Selection for the award is based on career, educational advancement, community involvement and participation in the association.

Turpin is a billing clerk for Azko Coatings Inc.

\ LAURIE E. GIBBONS has been named a Certified Fund Raising Executive by the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.

The status indicates a high standard of tenure, performance, education, knowledge and service in a not-for-profit organization. Gibbons is president of Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia.

\ CLIFFORD A. WRIGHT of Dale Avenue recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 25 years of service.

Wright was a senior materials technician.
