THE FINCASTLE RESOLUTIONS CHAPTER OF THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION has announced the winners of its annual essay contest. The chapter awards $50 and $100 savings bonds for essays about the the 1774 Battle of Point Pleasant.

\ NATIONAL BUSINESS COLLEGE has announced the names of Roanoke Valley residents named to its dean's list for the winter quarter at the Roanoke Valley campus.

\ ROANOKE-AREA STUDENTS who won first place in the Junior American Citizens "Flags in American History" contest are: Tiffany Wortman and Philip Wall, both of Roanoke Catholic Lower School; and David Durham, Lindsay Hock and Matt McDowell, all of Crystal Spring Elementary School.

The students are all fourth-graders.

The entries reflect an interest in the history and heritage of the United States, the central theme of the Junior American Citizens, a committee of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

The winners were sponsored by the Col. William Preston Chapter, and received pins and certificates. Their entries have been forwarded for judging at division and national levels.

\ WESTERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS from the Roanoke Valley have been announced. The awards and winners are as follows:

Grand awards - Mariana Abraham of Patrick Henry High School, and Amy Patterson of Lord Botetourt High School; alternate winners: Kristi Alger, Patrick Henry, and Jason Sprinkle, Lord Botetourt. The awards include a $2,000 renewable Roanoke College scholarship.

Hollins College award - Abraham and Patterson. The $1,000 scholarship is renewable.

\ MELISSA ANNE WILLCOX, daughter of Phillip G. Jr. and Judith E. Willcox of Roanoke, has been named to "Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities." She is studying family and child development and early childhood education at Virginia Tech.

\ ESTHER B. CIRASUNDA has been listed in both Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education. Cirasunda also was included in the 23rd edition of the Dictionary of International Biography and nominated for Who's Who of Women. Cirasunda has worked in the Roanoke Public School system for 19 years and is Garden City Elementary School's library media specialist.

\ JEFFREY BARNETT, son of Jeff and Freda Barnett of Roanoke, was named the 1993-94 William Fleming Trig-Star. A junior, Barnett participated in a trigonometry competition co-sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors and T.P Parker and Son. Runners-up in the competition were Jamal Millner, Huy Nguyen, Shafiq Waller and Julie Waddle.
