WESTERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS from the Roanoke Valley have been announced. The awards and winners are as follows:

Grand awards - Mariana Abraham of Patrick Henry High School, and Amy Patterson of Lord Botetourt High School; alternate winners: Kristi Alger, Patrick Henry, and Jason Sprinkle, Lord Botetourt. The awards include a $2,000 renewable Roanoke College scholarship.

Hollins College award - Abraham and Patterson. The $1,000 scholarship is renewable.

\ ROBERT SHELTON and RAYMOND KACZMAREK have been named officers in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.

Shelton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Selton of Roanoke, will be a Corps company commander and will hold the rank of cadet major. An environmental science major, Shelton will be responsible for the training and welfare of 50 cadets.

Kaczmarek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Kaczmarek of Roanoke, will hold the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel. As a Corps deputy commander, Kaczmarek will be responsible for 200 cadets entering the Corps next fall. He is studying biology and will graduate in May 1996.

\ PATRICK HENRY and WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL students recently won awards at the Regional Future Business Leaders Of America competition at Virginia Western Community College.

Winners from Patrick Henry High School were: Lisa Sowers, Daniel Daum and Michelle Eanes, first place; Taharee Webb, Emily Clasbey, Lori Clasbey, Chris Avidano and Heather Cormany, second place; Heather Cormany, third place; and Jo Doe and Charlena Stanley, fourth place.

Winners from William Fleming High School were: Jeremy Barnes and Vilavone Phonasa, first.

Fleming also won an award for having the longest running chapter membership in the region.

\ THE FLEMING-RUFFNER MAGNET CENTER'S School of Global Studies has formed a partnership with the New College of Global Studies of Radford University.

The beginning of the association was marked at a news conference with Gennadi Gerasimov, the former Russian ambassador to the West. The premier edition of New World, the biannual publication of the New College, featured a full-page article showcasing the Fleming-Ruffner School of Global Studies.

\ NATIONAL BUSINESS COLLEGE announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who graduated after the winter term. They are:

Associate degree graduates from Roanoke: Jean H. Butler, professional medical secretarial; Douglas E. Dearmon, Computer Science; Pamela C. Frost, accounting; Joy R. Girty, computer applications; Brian S. Martin, accounting; Betty Ka Yae Shum, management; Joan E. Stafford, professional medical secretarial; Robin Wilson, medical assisting.

From Salem: Carol B. Barba, travel and tourism; Yvette W. Duncan, professional legal secretarial; Tracey L. Haworth, management; James T. Jenkins Jr., travel and tourism; Cheryl A. Kay, professional executive secretary; David L. Smith, management.

From Vinton: Suzanne S. Belcher, accounting; Karen V. Lacks, medical assisting.

From New Castle: Kathy A. Huffman, management.

From Buchanan: Gregory B. Spangler, management.

\ KELLY DIERKER, daughter of Richard and Judy Dierker of Roanoke, has been named an admissions office tour guide for the 1994-95 academic year at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C.

Dierker is a freshman at the college.

\ KATRINA LEIGH WHITE, daughter of Frank and Sharon White of Roanoke, has been named to the first semester dean's list at Hollins College.

\ CADET RUSSELL BOOTH, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Booth of Roanoke, was named to academic honors for the fourth grading period at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham.

Booth is a freshman at the school.

\ AMY ELIZABETH LINDAMOOD, daughter of Robert E. and Anita D. Lindamood of Roanoke, is one of four dancers from Hollins College chosen to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

Lindamood is a sophomore and a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ SARAH E. MOORE of Roanoke recently was selected to the Longwood College chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. Moore is a senior majoring in English.

\ LISA FREELAND BENNETT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Freeland of Roanoke, recently received the Wall Street Journal Award at Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tenn.

Bennett is a senior accounting major.

\ WILLIAM BYRD HIGH SCHOOL announced that the following students have been selected for the Kiwanis Club's "Distinguished Student Award": Brian E. Taylor, technology education; Nicole L. Spradlin, fashion marketing; Michael Sutton, accounting; Brian S. Hannabass, general marketing; Samantha Huffman, word processing; and Tim Perdue, masonry.

The students will be honored at a luncheon, receive a certificate and be eligible for a cash award.
