CHAMBER HONORS ELLENBOGEN, ROGERS

The Greater Blacksburg chamber of Commerce named Bill Ellenbogen and Bill Rogers Tuesday as its Small Business Person of the Year and Eugene Jones Award winner, respectively.

Ellenbogen, owner of Bogen's restaurant on Main Street, was noted for his involvement on Blacksburg's bikeway and sidewalk advisory committee, and for the role he has played in obtaining funding for the Huckleberry Trail. He also owns Home Ride, a commuter bus service that provides rides for students, and is part owner of the Oakton subdivision. He is active in the Blacksburg Rotary Club and is a past president of the chamber.

Rogers owns Architectural Alternatives Inc., was the founding chairman of the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance, and is a member of the Montgomery County Improvement Council, which organizes the annual Broomin' and Bloomin' cleanup.

He chairs the town's Greenway/Urban Stream Committee and is the founder of Space for the Church Inc., a nonprofit firm that provides consulting and design service to churches.

The Small Business Person Award recognizes someone who has made a significant contribution to small business either by setting an example or through service. The Eugene Jones Award goes to someone who has contributed to the welfare or growth of small business through his or her profession or in a voluntary capacity.
