VALLEY VIEW ARSON CHARGES DISMISSED

A Roanoke man charged with attempted arson in connection with an April 17 fire at Spinnaker's Restaurant inside Valley View Mall had the charges dismissed Thursday.

Clifton L. Collins, 23, of the 2400 block of Westover Avenue Northwest, had been arrested outside the restaurant shortly after the nighttime fire was reported.

General District Judge Edward Kidd did not find sufficient evidence in a Thursday hearing to certify the charges to a grand jury, said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Mac Doubles.

The fire was contained to a bathroom and did little damage to the restaurant.

Collins' attorney could not be reached for comment Thursday.
