IN SERVICE

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael B. Michaels, son of Carl C. and Carole C. Michaels of Christiansburg, is participating in a major fleet exercise in the western Atlantic Ocean with Commander, U.S. Second Fleet, Naval Station, Norfolk, Va. The exercise includes 20 Navy ships and more than 100 aircraft from all the military services.

Marine Cpl. David W. Perdue, son of Irvin W. and Norma V. Perdue of Radford, was recently promoted to his present rank while serving with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Navy Seaman Recruit Billy J. Henley recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Fla. He is the son of Betty J. Beaver of Dublin.
