ITT TO HELP POLICE OFFICERS SEE AT NIGHT

Four police departments will receive night-vision goggles from ITT's electro-optical products division at a 9 a.m. news conference today at the Sheraton Roanoke Airport Inn.

The goggles, which are used in night surveillance and undercover operations, will be donated to Roanoke, Roanoke County, Salem and Vinton police. The eyewear is ITT's effort to develop a product line for nonmilitary use, said a company spokeswoman. Each set of goggles is valued at $2,395.

"We use them once in a while," said Capt. James R. Bryant of the Salem Police Department. "But it's not how much they're used, it's when you need them you have to have them."
