CALVARY BAPTIST ADDITION GROUND-BREAKING SUNDAY|

CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 622 Sixth St., Radford, will break ground Sunday at noon for its new multipurpose addition. The structure will include a fellowship hall, a gymnasium for members of the congregation, classrooms and a kitchen. The new wing, estimated to cost about $500,000, should be finished by year's end. Member Phyllis Morgan reports that about 200 regularly attend morning worship at the independent Baptist congregation. The Rev. O. D. Morgan is the pastor. Call 639-0727.

A ROMAN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY is forming in Christiansburg. Starting June 11, area clergy will celebrate Mass Saturdays at 7 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus Hall on College Street (near Radford Road). Celebrants will include the Rev. Donald Lemay of St. Mary's in Blacksburg, the Rev. Thomas Magri of St. Jude in Radford and the Rev. Louis Benoit of Holy Family in Pearisburg. Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead will hold its third annual MEMORIAL DAY COMMEMORATION service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 29. Local survivors of recent major conflicts will read the names of those who died in battle, and the nation's colors will be presented in their honor. Over two dozen youth at Cambria Baptist Church, Christiansburg, have signed commitment carts as part of the national "True Love Waits Campaign." The national Southern Baptist Convention program promotes sexual abstinence among youth and hopes to display over 500,000 cards from across the country on The Mall in Washington in late July.

Straight Street teen center plans to open a "satellite" site in Fairlawn at the former A-1 Auto Parts store on U.S. 11, across from the Golden Corral restaurant. The site still needs a lot of work - and volunteer labor. Kevin Payne is heading up the project. Call 381-1006.
