Construction of the permanent building for Community National Bank will get under way soon.
``Right now I'm standing where we think our tellers are going to be operating within a year,'' Wayne Carpenter, president and chief executive officer of Community National Bank ,told people assembled for the announcement on the lot along Memorial Drive.
It has been 13 months since the local organizers announced plans for the bank. Since then, the necessary approvals from federal banking agencies have been obtained.
A 2,000-square-foot modular building has been leased for delivery to the lot by July. It will offer full banking services except for automatic teller machines and safety deposit boxes, and those will be available in the permanent building.
Besides Carpenter, bank officials already hired include Mary Wright, senior vice president, and Cookie Dudley, administrative assistant.
Carpenter said three candidates will be interviewed for the position of senior lending officer, and one of them hired next month.
Six to eight staff people, such as tellers and account clerks, will be hired starting in June.
Electronic Data Systems Corp. of Bluefield, W.Va., will handle data processing services for the new bank.
``This arrangement allows us to offer any service our competition offers. It also gives us the flexibility to design other products to meet the needs of our customers,'' Carpenter said.
The only requirement left is a preopening examination by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to confirm bank compliance with its application. The examination is scheduled for the third week in July.
