MacNaughton, a senior from Greenville, S.C., who was a doubles All-American in 1991, beat Kenny Schultz of Rochester 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 Friday night, then defeated Chris Zolas of Trinity 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 Saturday morning.

The Virginia Tech golf team qualified for the NCAA golf championship on the strength of its eighth place finish in the East Regional at Grand National Lake Golf Course in Opelika, Ala. The Hokies fired a 293 on the final day, giving them a three-day total of 894.
Clemson shot a 278 in the last round to take the team title Its three-round total of 868 was seven shots better than runner-up Florida's 875.
Tech freshman Curtis Deal shot a 74, giving him a three-day score of 217 and a tie for fourth place individually. Sean Farrell finished in a tie for 36th with a total of 225. David Havens shot a 72, the low round of the day, to tie for 64th at 230, Matt Martin finished tied for 68th at 231 and Brian Sharp carded a 73 to finish in a tie for 73rd at 232.
The championship will be determined June 1-4 at Stonebridge Country Club at McKinney, Texas.
Ferrum came up a run short in a ninth-inning comeback attempt and was eliminated from the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional with a 5-4 loss to Mary Washington in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Ferrum, which ends its season 26-7, trailed 5-1 entering the ninth inning, but rallied behind a two-out, three-run home run by Chad Maddox off Mary Washington reliever Mark Matthews.
Matthews got the final out to get a save and preserve the win for Kevin Cooke (7-1), who allowed five hits and struck out six in eight innings.
Maddox was 3-for-4 and Blacksburg's Matt Smith tripled in a run for the Panthers. Losing pitcher Anthony Smith (4-1) gave up eight hits and walked four in eight innings.
The Eagles (28-6), who played North Carolina Wesleyan for the regional championship Saturday afternoon, got two hits from Dan McCann and Brian Abel.
