Princeton's victory spoiled a six-goal effort by Virginia senior Cherie Greer, who finished the season with 61 goals, tops in Division I. Princeton got three goals each from Abigail Gutstein and Armory Rowe.
It was the third consecutive overtime game between the teams, including Princeton's 15-14 triumph over UVa during the regular season, and the 27 goals set an NCAA Tournament record. The Cavaliers beat the Tigers 8-6 in last year's title game.
Second-seeded Princeton (15-1) advanced to the championship game at 3 p.m. today against top-seeded Maryland (12-0). The Terrapins routed Loyola, Md., 19-4.
Third-seeded Virginia finished 13-4. The Cavaliers have made the women's final four in each of the past four seasons, winning championships in 1991 and 1993 and losing overtime semifinal games the other two years.
