HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD BELIEVE THIS GUY

A new, weekly column on the latest home electronics debuts today. ``At Home with Technology,'' by David Butler, aims to provide up-to-date information on new products in consumer electronics and housing technologies. The column will address home security, whole-house audio and video, interactive multimedia, advanced lighting, remote control and home automation.

Butler, a consultant and free-lance writer, specializes in home automation and advanced consumer products. His professional activities include consumer product research, systems design and human factors. Butler studied business at the University of North Carolina and received his master's degree in electrical and computer engineering from North Carolina State University.

He has been a featured columnist for Electronic House Magazine. Since 1985 he has been involved in the development of the Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus) communications standard. He lives in Charlotte, N.C.

Butler has a no-nonsense, benefits-driven style that should appeal to a diverse audience, including people who are easily intimidated by technology. ``At Home with Technology'' offers useful information for ``do it yourselfers'' as well as those who simply know what technology can do for them. The column emphasizes products that are available today, with an occasional glimpse at the future.
