The woman said she and her two children were driven into the Jefferson National Forest in Craig County by their abductor, but she managed to reason with him and get him to drive them back to Salem, according to Sgt. D.R. Divers of the Salem Police Department. The names of the woman and her children were not released.
John Hollister, 35, of Riverland Road, was taken into custody and charged with abduction and illegal use of a handgun, Divers said. Hollister remained in the Roanoke County jail Monday with bond set at $10,000.
Divers said Salem police already were searching for Hollister's vehicle after receiving a tip from a city resident. The resident saw a woman - with her hands tied behind her back - trying to get out of a car on Electric Road near the General Electric plant. The driver quickly pulled her back into the vehicle and continued down Electric Road, he said.
