BOTETOURT MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE FOR 4TH TIME

Frank Eugene Beverly, who has been acquitted or received reduced sentences at least three times after being charged with rape, faces a new rape charge in Botetourt County.

Beverly, 39, is accused of raping a 45-year-old woman early Friday after meeting her at the home of a mutual friend in Clifton Forge.

The woman told police that Beverly coaxed her into giving him a ride by saying

his car had broken down.

She claims he jerked the keys from her car's ignition after they turned onto Fork Farm Road at Iron Gate in northern Botetourt County and forcibly raped her.

The woman said she was able to free herself after the alleged assault, which occurred about 3 a.m., and ran to a nearby house to call for help.

Police found the woman's car abandoned, and arrested Beverly later Friday morning.

In 1990, a woman Beverly met at a party said he had driven her to Botetourt County, parked on the side of U.S. 220 and raped her seven or eight times.

A judge acquitted Beverly after he testified she had consented to sex.

In 1992, a female acquaintance accused him of beating and raping her after they had smoked crack cocaine together in an abandoned trailer outside the town of Iron Gate.

Beverly pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of sexual battery and was ordered to serve six months in jail.

In 1984, Beverly pleaded guilty to assault and battery in Clifton Forge after being accused by an ex-girlfriend of dragging her into a thicket and raping her. He served eight months in jail.

He was being held in Botetourt County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
