Tuck was the only candidate. He had been nominated May 16 at a public hearing for nominations by Dr. Carole Pratt.
The interview process at Monday night's supervisors meeting brought no questions, only a comment from supervisors Chairman Jerry White thanking Tuck for his 12 years of School Board service and willingness to continue.
The appointment will be in effect through next year, when the selection process will change to direct election of School Board members. Voters will choose those members in the Nov. 8 election.
The supervisors also adopted their proposed 1994-95 budget, as advertised. Tax rates will remain unchanged.
The budget includes an additional $350,000 for courthouse renovation and expansion.
The supervisors will take a closer look at plans for a War Memorial to be built at the new court facilities. Supervisor Bruce Fariss questioned the use of marble for it, rather than limestone which would match the courthouse, and a permanent flame that would cost an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 a year to maintain. ``That's a lot of candles,'' he said.
Board Chairman Jerry White said public contributions to the proposed memorial, which have totaled about $3,500 so far, do not indicate overwhelming public financial support for the $120,000 project.
In other business, the board appointed Marty Kemp to the county Office on Youth board and the Rev. Richard Patterson to the New River Community Services Board, and nominated Ron Shelburne for the Zoning Appeals Board.
The meeting was held at Pulaski County High School.
