WINNERS ANNOUNCED IN TROUT FISHING RODEO

Winners announced in trout fishing rodeo

The Salem Department of Parks and Recreation recently announced the young winners in the Ernest "Pig" Robertson Trout Fishing Rodeo.

In the 3- to 8-year-old age group, Nikki Doyle and Tony Alexander won Largest Trout Overall, and Jennifer Chattin and Nick Wells won Heaviest Catch Overall.

Others receiving awards were: Brittany Craft, Katlin Carr, Rachel Gresham, Bridget Muncy, Dillon Austin, Jeremy Kennedy, Devin Conner, Cassie Cole, Jessica Miller, Brittany Simmons, Becky Sawyer, Danielle Basham, Terri Campbell, Brian Campell, Adam Ayers, D. Hurst, Jason Stanley, Robert Mitchell and Mac Chattin.

In the 9- to 12-year-old age group, Monique Thompson and Ben Rutrough won Largest Trout Overall, and Kari Arnold and Brett Hurt won Heaviest Catch Overall.

Others receiving awards were: Brittany Feazel, Wren Lawrence, Debra Meyers, Melissa Owens, Veronica Marx, Shannon Gusler, Danielle Taylor, David Voss, David Hale, Trevor Woodson, Bryan Hallett, Eric Secrist and Jared Perdue.

Truckers win awards at annual safety rodeo

The Safety Council of Southwest Virginia recently announced the following winners in its' 10th annual Truck Safety Rodeo.

They are: B.D. Edwards of Salem and driver for Overnite, second place, twin trailers category; Cecil Wolfe of Roanoke and driver for DSI Transports, first place, five axle tank category; James Moran of Roanoke and employee with DSI Transports, second place, five axle flatbed division; Leonard Huffman of Salem and driver for R and E Hauling, first place, five axle van category; and Stephen Hale of Roanoke and driver for Estes, second place, three axle division.

Rokeva Woman's Club earns district awards

The Rokeva Woman's Club recently received 11 awards at the Blue Ridge district meeting of the Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs.

The club received second-place awards in areas of leadership, today's living, health, crime and legislation.

The group also received special emphasis awards in areas of membership, international affairs, fund raising, safety and for their work with the Camp Easter Seal East in Caroline County.

Rokeva also received the Sarah Hendley Attendance award for highest average attendance to a club its size.

The group also installed officers for the coming year. They are: Carol Guilliams, president; Virginia Wallace, first vice president; Dorothy Edwards, second vice president; Doris Sartelle, recording secretary; Anne Scott, corresponding secretary; and Audrey Lindsey, treasurer.

Club member Bernell Rich was elected president of the Blue Ridge district.
