The Thursday Morning Music Club recently gave $3,000 in awards and scholarships to several young music and dance students.
Those winning Summer Workshop awards are: Rachael Perrott, piano; Katie Saville, clarinet; Katie Hall, voice; Justin R. Marlles and Kristin M. Lynch, violin; and Jessica H. Surace, Jaime Robtison and William Smith, dance.
Those winning cash awards were: Angela McClung, piano; Julie A. Floryan, dance; and Rebecca Hain, piano hymns
Alex Wade, violinist, and Amy Sears, dancer, both received college scholarships.
The club has also elected nine people to serve on the board of directors for 1994-1996. They are: Garnett L. Carroll, Joan B. Chidester, Jean Comer, Mary Crowder, Denver J. Davis, Ruby Dodd, John F. Downie, Frank D. Morris and Phyllis Smith.
1,400 Roanokers walk walk for March of Dimes
The March of Dimes recently raised $91,000 during the annual WalkAmerica For Healthier Babies.
This was the Roanoke Valley's 23rd annual walk. A record setting number of 1,400 walkers participated in the organization's largest fund-raising event, said Jim Cox, walk chairman.
The March of Dimes develops and supports programs that provide diagnosis and treatment of birth defects, genetic counseling and early regular prenatal care.
