CARDS ASK CLARK TO TAKE SALARY CUT

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Gary Clark has been asked to take a pay cut to help the NFL team get under the league's new $34.6 million salary cap.

The Arizona Republic reported Thursday that coach-general manager Buddy Ryan hadn't received a response from Clark about restructuring his three-year, $6 million contract, which calls for $1.37 million in base salary this season.

Ralph Cindrich, Clark's agent, declined to comment.

Clark, the former Pulaski County High School star, suffered a groin pull in the second game last season and was healthy for only six more games, but he caught 63 passes to rank second to Ricky Proehl among the team's wide receivers. It was the first season with the Cardinals for Clark, who went to the Pro Bowl four times in eight years with the Washington Redskins.

Ryan said he didn't care how Clark reacted to his proposal.

"Only two guys can start, and we've got to get No. 81 [Randal Hill] in there a lot, so it doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned," he said.
