SUSPICIOUS FIRE IS INVESTIGATED

Roanoke fire marshals and police are investigating a blaze at South Roanoke United Methodist Church on Tuesday night.

"It wasn't an accident, that's for sure," Assistant Fire Marshal Bob Meyer said Thursday afternoon when asked if the blaze was being investigated as arson.

Firefighters were called to the church, at Jefferson and 24th streets, around 9 p.m. Tuesday after a neighbor heard an alarm and reported the fire.

The blaze was contained to one room on the second floor. No one was injured.
