The board voted 6-1 Monday, with Supervisor Jim Moore the sole dissenting vote, on plans for the tract at U.S. 460 and Peppers Ferry Road. Moore also voted against the final plan of an earlier section under development last month, citing what he said was the area's too-rapid growth.
That section includes the land beside the existing Kmart, which is being developed for a new Heironimus department store and a Lowe's home improvement store.
Plans for the latest 30-acre section, which extends behind the Market Place, have not been publicly discussed before the Board of Supervisors or the Planning Commission.
The plat that Matthews filed with the county shows three lots of approximately two to three acres each and 22 acres of undeveloped land stretching behind the current Wal-Mart store.
The area is bordered on the south by the extension of Peppers Ferry Road, on the west by the Market Place and on the east by the route of the future U.S. 460 bypass connector between Blacksburg and Christiansburg, also known as Alternative 3A.
