RADFORD ROTC PROGRAM HONORED

The Radford University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps has won the 1994 Gen. Douglas MacArthur Award. The award goes to the best battalion of the U.S. Army Cadet Command in the small school category. The award is the first national honor for the Radford University ROTC program, which was founded in 1978.

Radford University competed with over 100 other university programs for the award, which is based on commissioning, recruiting, training and retention rates.

Maj. James A. Bailie, assistant professor of military science and head of the university's ROTC program, accepted the award in late April. He was accompanied by Cadet Kevin Kirby.
