MEMORIAL DAY TRADITION BACK IN NEW CASTLE

Craig County will revive a Memorial Day custom this year that has not been held for about a quarter of a century.

Bob Kibler, member of a citizens' committee putting the program together, said veterans of all wars will be honored on the front lawn of the county courthouse in New Castle at 2 p.m. Monday.

Merchants from throughout the county have donated flowers and flags for display around two monuments on the courthouse lawn. One monument honors the county's Confederate veterans; the other honors veterans of all other wars.

The flags will be presented by the New Castle Post 4491 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Paul Moore is commander of that post.

Tommy Zimmerman, mayor of New Castle, will be master of ceremonies for the program, and Walton Mitchell, former clerk of the county circuit court, will speak on Craig County's history and its participation in the nation's wars.

The citizens' committee expects a large turnout of spectators.
