ALLEGHANY CHOOSES BOYS BASKETBALL COACH

Alleghany's lengthy search for a new boys' basketball coach to replace Jimmy Smith has come to an end with the appointment of Carl Watson to the post.

Watson was the head coach at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia for two years. He also coached at three high schools in that state. More recently, Watson was the assistant at Group AA Warren County in Northern Virginia.

Roanoke College's Courtney Fitch cleared 6 feet, 8 inches, but finished 11th in the high jump at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in Naperville, Ill.
