For the Salem Buccaneers reaching a record three games under .500 has been like trying to sneak a Japanese Army platoon past Godzilla.
With yet another stab at it Saturday night at Municipal Field, Salem bowed to the Frederick Keys 9-6 before a Carolina League baseball crowd of 3,237.
"I don't know how many times we've had a chance to go three under," said Salem manager Trent Jewett, whose club is 22-27. "I think it's been about seven. It seems like 20."
The Bucs gave up runs in six of nine innings and never led. A three-run eighth in which the potential tying run came to the plate did not suffice.
