FIREFIGHTERS CONTAIN 2-ACRE FIRE

A 2-acre brush fire that began late Sunday kept Roanoke County firefighters busy until they extinguished it Monday afternoon.

"I am exhausted," Ron Edward, assistant fire chief for the Cave Spring company, said.

The fire, which was between Cave Spring Lane and Linda Lane, was fairly close to residential areas.

Edward said the steep incline made the fire difficult to contain. A tractor was brought in to help clear a circle around the fire to contain it.

Edward said he had no idea how the fire started, and the cause was still under investigation by the Forestry Department.
