Wilmington is 36-13, the best record in professional baseball, and is eight games ahead of second-place Prince William in the Northern Division.
Chance Sanford went 2-for-3 and drove in both runs for Salem. In the second inning, he singled in Jay Cranford after the third baseman reached on a single and advanced to second on Jason Kendall's groundout.
Sanford smashed a home run with one out in the fifth for the Bucs' other run.
The Blue Rocks tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Martinez doubled to score Steve Murphy, who had reached on a fielder's choice and stole second and third, and Johnny Damon, who was walked by Salem's Matt Chamberlain (1-7).
Wilmington sealed the win in the bottom of the seventh when Murphy singled, stole second and advanced to third on Bucs catcher Marcus Hanel's throwing error. Damon tripled to score Murphy and Sutton singled to score Damon.
Salem's Sean Lawrence will face Dario Perez when the teams meet again tonight. \
