\ Mike Krzyzewski almost certainly will announce that he will remain the head basketball coach at Duke University in a news conference this morning in Durham, N.C.
The tipoff to Krzyzewski's intentions was Duke's announcement of the 11 a.m. news conference Monday night. Although Krzyzewski, athletic director Tom Butters and the Duke sports information office refused to comment, the venue indicates that the Blue Devils' coach plans to stay in Durham.
If Krzyzewski were leaving to accept an NBA coaching job with the Portland Trail Blazers, the announcement would be made at an introductory news conference in Portland.
The university's sports information director, Mike Cragg, would not provide details.
"All I can tell you is the news conference is at Duke," he said Monday night.
Meanwhile, The Herald-Sun of Durham reported two sources at the school said Krzyzewski would be staying at Duke.
Krzyzewski, 47, prompted speculation after announcing last week he was considering leaving Duke after 14 seasons, seven trips to the NCAA Final Four, a 349-124 record and national championships in 1991 and '92. Although he didn't indicate where his search was taking him, all signs pointed to the NBA, particularly to the Trail Blazers, who fired coach Rick Adelman this month.
Sources said Krzyzewski was upset with school officials, principally new president Nan Keohane and Butters, over administrative decisions that affected his program.
