ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Reduced air fares for many East Coast destinations continued last month to boost passenger traffic at Roanoke Regional Airport, according to spokesman Mark Courtney.

The airport handled a total of 64,761 boarding and deplaning passengers in April, an increase of 22 percent over the same month a year ago. Year-to-date traffic stands at 212,556 passengers, up 12 percent.

Air freight was up 35 percent over last April; year-to-date totals rose 14 percent.
