Eric Motley (6-1) and Ronnie Wimmer combined on a four-hitter, with Motley striking out nine and allowing one unearned run in six innings.

Tazewell (22-3) was clinging to a 2-1 lead when Wes Gentry came through with the biggest hit of the game, a two-out two-run double off Christiansburg starter Denny Self (5-5). Christiansburg (10-11), the New River District tournament champion, scored an unearned run in the seventh off Wimmer, who earned his 10th save.

Jack Compton was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs, who play at Gate City in a regional semifinal Thursday.

Region C baseball

COVINGTON - Jason Anderson struck out nine in 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief as Glenvar defeated Lebanon 7-2 in the first round of the Region C tournament.

Highlanders starter Jake Weddle gave up two hits and two unearned runs in the first 3 1/3 innings before Anderson (9-1) came in with two on in the fourth. The senior left-hander fanned two batters to squash Lebanon's final threat of the afternoon and he went on register the 500th strikeout of his career.

David Henderson had two hits, including an RBI single in a three-run third that gave Glenvar (18-2) the lead for good. The Highlanders play Grayson County in a regional semifinal on Thursday at Covington.
