Discussions groups will meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at the community center on Patrick Henry Drive. The Thursday meeting this week will be "Investment for the Beginner." The June 16 discussion will be on "How Our Welfare System Works."

A summer bowling league for seniors 55 and older will begin on June 8 at Triangle Lanes in Christiansburg and run for ten weeks at 10 a.m. each Wednesday. The league will be composed of two-person teams and, the cost is $3.75 per week.

The center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and all seniors over 50 may drop by and join whatever is going on. There are books to read, a television to watch and a VCR to use.
New programs are always welcome, so anyway who wishes to share a skill or talent with others, speak up. A monthly calendar of events is printed, and some of the activities are listed in this column each week.
The AARP chapter 445 pot luck and pie luncheon is Friday at 12:30 p.m. AARP chapter 502 is invited. Certified Public Accountant Vickie McFall will speak about investments.

Marie Abee, Frankie Bowyer, Daisy Graham, Glada Hall, Mary Jane Harmon, Marie Jackson, Cathy Jeuck and Jackie Stephens won awards for ceramics at the 24th Annual Virginia Hobby Ceramics and Craft Show in Richmond in May. Ceramics classes meet each Tuesday at 10 a.m. Participants bring a sandwich and pay a $2 table fee plus cost of ceramic items.
Beginning bridge classes will be held each Monday in June at 9:30 a.m. Lessons are free.
Friday travel adventures for June include trips to Mabry Mill Restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at an outlet and a country store. On Friday and June 24, the van will depart at 9:15 a.m. Transportation fee is $2.
