KILLER RECEIVES MAXIMUM

A Roanoke man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for what a prosecutor called "one of the most brutal killings this city has ever seen."

Michael Scott Hairston received the maximum sentence for killing his girlfriend, Judith D. Cook, who was stabbed in the back as many as nine times and struck as many times in the head with a baseball bat.
