EMPTY HOUSES GUTTED IN CITY

Two suspicious fires happened several blocks apart Wednesday night, gutting two vacant houses.

Firefighters responded to a blaze at 522 Marshall Ave. S.W. at 8 p.m. The second fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. at 806 Day Ave S.W.

Capt. John Patterson of the Roanoke Fire Station 3 said no one was injured in the fires. Both were still being investigated.

Both blazes are in the same area of the city where a string of suspicious fires occurred earlier this year.
