RADFORD PAIR WINS AA DOUBLES TITLE

Radford's Cathy Richardson and Ashleigh Funk teamed to give Timesland a Group AA girls' doubles state tennis championship Thursday at the Dedmon Center.

Richardson and Funk beat Salem's Jill Archer and Betsy Hall 6-1, 7-5 to push their record to 17-1. It was the first loss for the Salem pair in 13 matches.

In singles, Archer ran into a buzz saw as Megan Romine of Courtland won the state crown with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Romine (16-0) lost only three games in two state tournament matches. Archer finishes at 11-4.

Richardson also took third place, beating Tabb's Sowmya Iyer 6-2, 6-2. Richardson finishes at 16-2.

In team play, Osbourn beat Marion 6-3.
