FREDERICK DROPS BUCCANEERS 9-5

The Frederick Keys used four stolen bases to spark a five-run sixth inning and disposed of Salem 9-5 on Thursday in a Carolina League baseball game.

Frederick (27-26) had six steals overall - three by designated hitter Harry Berrios and two by leadoff hitter Kimera Bartee.

Before the Keys' outburst, Salem had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Jake Austin.

The Bucs (24-30) pulled to 7-5 in the eighth inning when Danny Clyburn and Jon Farrell had RBI hits.

But Frederick scored two runs in the bottom of the inning when Bryan Link scored on a throwing error and Clayton Byrne singled home Berrios, who stole second and third after singling.

Frederick's Jay Powell (4-2) picked up the victory, going 7 innings and giving up seven hits while striking out three. Scott Conner pitched the final 1 innings to record his fifth save.

For Salem, Ted Klamm (2-5) started and lasted 5 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs. Two Bucs relievers didn't fare much better, giving up a combined five hits and five earned runs in 2 innings.

Clyburn paced Salem with two hits and three RBI.

Marcus Hanel hit a solo home run in the second inning for the Bucs, and Lincoln Martin hit a solo blast in the second inning for the Keys. Martin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
