RACING PANEL SEEKS TO STOP TRACK VOTE

The Virginia Racing Commission agreed during an emergency meeting to ask the state Supreme Court to stop a referendum in Loudoun County that could put an end to a proposed horse track.

Commissioners said the Aug. 2 referendum threatens the stability of Virginia's racing industry. The commission decided Thursday to file a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the Old Dominion Jockey Club, which has challenged the legality of the referendum.
