REPUBLICANS STILL `FRIENDS' DESPITE NOMINATION FIGHT

There was much discussion at the Republican convention that Oliver North's candidacy has fractured the party and invites further divisions if former Attorney General Marshall Coleman enters the fray.

Del. Malfourd "Bo" Trumbo of Fincastle, who supported Jim Miller, and North supporter Grant Rush of Harrisonburg weren't listening.

The two men bumped into each other on the convention floor, slapped each other on the back and began a spirited and neighborly discussion about mutual friends and family.

"I have a number of friends, close friends in fact, who are working in Miller's campaign," Rush said. "After it's all over we're friends again."

Trumbo concurred. "We've got 14,000 people in here, up to the rafters," he said, gesturing to the packed hall. "I don't see any fights breaking out, and nobody's had to call the cops."
