BUCS MAKE IT 3 IN A ROW/ CLYBURN LEADS WIN OVER KEYS

The Carolina League schedule has the Salem Buccaneers returning home tonight. If given a choice, the Bucs might have elected to stay in Maryland.

Sparked by left fielder Danny Clyburn's three RBI, the Bucs beat the Frederick Keys 4-3 Sunday. It was Salem's third straight win in Frederick after losing the opener of the four-game series on Thursday.

Clyburn smacked a solo homer in the fourth to give Salem a 2-1 lead, then he added what proved to be a decisive two-run double in the sixth.

The victory kept Salem (27-30) right in the middle of the tightly bunched pack in the Carolina's Southern Division. The Bucs trail the first-place Winston-Salem Spirits (28-29) by one game and the second-place Kinston Indians (27-29) by one-half game with two weeks left in the season's first half.

The Bucs, who return to Municipal Field tonight to open a six-game home stand against the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Durham Bulls, had to sweat out a late Keys rally. After Frederick had drawn to 4-3 in the eighth, Salem manager summoned ace reliever Mark Pisciotta from the bullpen.

Pisciotta responded, inducing Marcos Manrique to line out to Clyburn with two runners on base. Pisciotta put the Keys down in the ninth to notch his 14th save.

Jon Farrell knocked in Salem's other run with a solo homer in the third.

Starter Sean Lawrence, who scattered six hits and struck out seven in six innings, picked up his fourth win in five decisions.
