DROWNING VICTIM'S BODY RECOVERED FROM JAMES

The body of a Ferrum man who drowned May 7 was recovered Saturday evening in the James River, according to the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office.

James D. Boitnott Jr., 38, of Route 3, Ferrum, was fishing with his 6-year-old son when their boat capsized about a mile upstream from the Glen Wilton bridge. Boitnott's son was rescued by two of his uncles who were in a nearby craft, but they were unable to find their brother.

Boitnott was not wearing a life jacket; his son was.

A funeral service for Boitnott will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount.
